About Us
Mabel was founded by me, Laura, in November 2018.
After a troublesome pregnancy and very difficult first year with my second child, Mabel, I suffered with post natal anxiety which cumulated in a massive mental health struggle and ultimately a physical and mental breakdown.
A wonderful doctor recognised that my physical symptoms weren't simply down to my frequent chest infections but more mental health and referred me to therapy and put me on medication.
A tough year later and now with a little lady full of character, spirit and a strong sense of self, Mabel inspired me.
How could this little thing be so self assured and why do we lose this as we get older?
I also learnt that it was ok to just be, to have good days and bad days, not to compare my self to others achievements and that it is my life, no one else's.
The more I spoke about my experiences, I realised we all go through similar struggles... be it imposter syndrome, job stress, family issues, loss of identity in motherhood, worrying about what others think, the list is endless.
I wanted to both raise awareness for the struggle and celebrate these traits that we may have lost!
Combining this experience with a love of fashion, a family printing business and a desire to be creative and spread the word... Mabel. was born!
I didn't want Mabel to be 'just another fast fashion' company, every design means something to me personally or represents someone I know, the underlying theme throughout is...
Just as she...Just as she should be.
I also wanted pieces to be made to last and spent a lot of time resourcing a manufacturer that prides themselves on sustainable production, using organic cotton, that ensure workers pay is fair and ethic.
Each item is printed to order to limit wasted stock and avoid excess landfill, so although you may have to wait a little but longer you know there's a good reason behind it.
